| Karnataka Parent's Association For Mentally Retarded Citizens | |||||

In the year 1978, a few parents of persond with mental retardation in Bangalore came together and took the initiative to form an association to actively work for providing the basic needs for their wards and advocate on their behalf with the authorities to provide aducational and training facilities.
This initiative by the parents resulted in the formation of Karnataka Parents Association for Mentally Retarded Citizens [KPAMRC]. which was registered under the Karnataka Socities Registration Act 1960 on May 26, 1979. KPAMRC became the first registered Parents' Association to pioneer advocacy movement in the state of Karnataka and also among the first few in the country.
